Replacing the heater core on my 94, which as you may know is a delight, and this plastic piece appeared on the floor when I got the case apart. Can someone tell me exactly where it goes? It's bad enough I probably won't remember where some of the nuts and bolts scattered around the floor go...
The housing has a hole in it that is covered by a tube running from top to bottom on the heater core housing. It goes in the hole.
Oh, the tube that runs across the case, and has two screws that hold it to the case? I guess all the yanking to get the tube away from the case caused the piece to fall off, and into the case. So, how am I supposed to put it on the tube, if I can't pull the tube far away enough from the case?
Yes, it goes behind that pipe. The pipe comes up from the left, turns horizontal then turns up to the right at about a 45 degree angle. That duct goes to the side window defroster on the right.
How far apart do you have the dash? When I did mine I followed the FSM so I had everything out of the way.

In the first picture I can see the 2 ducts that tube connects too. The tube looks to be out.
The second looks like the Air bag is back in. Might have to remove the airbag to get the tube out.
The second pic was actually taken first, the airbag is still out. The tube is disconnected from the defroster tube on the right, but I couldn't get it off where it goes behind the radio on the left. Does it just pull out of there?
No I think the tube goes all the way across. When I did mine I had a lot more removed. Look at post #51 in this thread. With the relay mount and harness down and out of the way there is more room to move the duct.
Ok, got the new core in. Question...should I apply some sort of sealant between the two halves of the case? It looks like some black silicone was at least across the bottom when I pulled it apart.
Wanted a chance to check the FSM before I answered. I knew mine didn't have any and there is no mention of sealant in the assembly instructions.
Best guess is it was added to stop a leaking core from dripping.
Well that would explain the green coloring on the inside of the case. I'm glad it never got worse. Funny thing is.. I have had the car for 20 years, I got it when it was less than 4 years old, with just under 38,000 miles. So...it is likely that the silicone was a shortcut at the dealer for a warranty repair.

Always a joy finding those hidden dealer fixes... I agree with everyone above. It looks like part that little hose that attaches to the main housing and carries air to your door defrosts. Replaced the heater core in my 89 a few months back, I did the same thing when putting parts back, like a jigsaw puzzle.
Trying to get things buttoned up. I can't seem to see or remember where this was clipped to. It doesn't connect to anything, but I wanted to clip it back in the same location.
