I have an 85 corvette with 4+3, that still has the stock exhaust in place. I think up close it has a nice growl at idle and it is not bad at higher RPMs. I want to have something NOTICEABLE but with a good sound. I have a 1993 K1500 Blazer 5.7L that the previous owner put a Flowmaster 50 series on, and I really love it. It sounds close to dual straight pipes but without the raspy popping. The reason I know that is because my dad has the same model truck with dual straight pipes. I have heard Magnaflow on a Dodge 5.9L and it sounds like a pronounced hum. Not a fan of the humming.
Essentially, I am looking for the classic V8 idle sound, like dual straight pipes but slightly refined. I am trying to make the idle noticed at a by people at the stoplight. When I start it up to go for a drive my neighbors should take notice. I was thinking Flowmaster 40 or Flowmaster Super 44. I felt the Flowmaster Super 10 may be a little to loud inside for conversation, but if it is what fits my criteria then I will go for it. I want the presence of my Corvette to be KNOWN, because it is my fun car, and I don't really like quite vehicles. I will be deleting the catalytic converter and doing true dual, maybe x or h pipe. No emissions in Arkansas so it not needed. Thought and suggestions are appreciated.
Edit: One other thing, I want to have dual exhaust tips on both side, so what would be better, mufflers with dual outlet hole or muffler with single outlet with a tip that Y's to the dual tip? I don't know if it makes a difference, but still worth asking.

none. I put muffler eliminators on mine and she has a really nice rumble at idle and when you get on her, but noticeably quieter in the cabin at cruising speed.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I had though about that. Technically, no muffler should be the loudest.
To 84 4+3: I have seen lots of videos, and it seems that the camera and my speakers do not do the exhaust note justice on any video. I have spent countless hours researching this topic, until I figure the best thing to do is ask you guys.

I hear you. The in driveway rev with the eliminators was a little off because of how I set the gain but I used otherwise good equipment for the takeoff down the street. An okay pair of headphones gets you pretty close.
This one is missing the low end umph it has but again. It's an idea. These are raspy in real life. I like it. It sounds old school and new school. If that makes sense.
I may just take a sawzall to the stock mufflers and If I like the sound redo the pipes to exit out the appropriate spot. At least that will be a cost free test. One day when I can afford a decent set of long tube header, that should help the sound out too.

Being honest I thought the 84 sounded like crap with just straight pipes out the cat. That's why I got the baffled eliminators. The 84 is also a special kind of strange when it comes to how it sounds. The tpi always sounded different to me. Better stock if you will. Straight on the tpi cars sounds pretty good.

I listen to it again with headphones on. Actually a bigger difference than I expected. Those first mufflers sounded almost identical to mine. Your equipment does a good job. No mufflers does make a noticeable difference. I know it will sound even better in person.

Well there is a muffler built into the tips sort of. It's not just straight piped. And the first set is 84 reproduction mufflers. So it should be close to stock. I always try for good quality so people can hear it.
I need some different mufflers too. Anyone know of good 3" inlet mufflers? The muffler eliminators are not an option for me as my C4 has a cammed LQ9, Long tubes, x-pipe and not cats.
It is already a little to loud for my neighbors.

my uncle threw a set of magnaflows on his 67. That being said it's still loud as hell. But 400s sound awesome so...
OP, if you liked the Flowmasters on the Blazer why not go with them on the C4? I had a set of their Corvette specific dual outlet mufflers (with a rear crossover tube) on my '84 and I liked the sound both inside and outside the car.

well that's why I was looking into Flowmaster first, but I know there are many different brands out there. I though I'd ask the Corvette guys on their opinions, since I don't have the money to buy multiple brands of mufflers and decide. I am looking for a proper V8 sound that's nice and pronounced, which is what Flowmasters seem to do.
I had flowmasters on my old Vette (not sure which, they were on it when I bought it) and they were LOUD. Don't get me wrong, I liked the sound, but man they were LOUD. Cruising speeds were uncomfortable for any length of time. But they sounded great when you cranked the engine, I tell you what.
the original flo systems for the C4 werent real loud at all. The 50 Delta flow have a little more volume drone isnt bad but its there. Stick the generic xx series on there youll hate it.

It is definitely a matter of individual taste, your best bet might be to attend a number of Corvette events and find out what sounds good to you. One persons "loud" is another's "cool" and there is no accounting for taste. Personally, I liked my kind of obnoxious Flowmaster set up on my '84 but, the Corsas on my current '96 are much more mellow at cruise.
Another option is to use a "Chambered Exhaust System". I have them on both of my Corvettes. I bought them at Corvettes@Carlisle and brought them home so I saved a bundle.
The Chambered Exhaust systems don't use conventional style mufflers. Instead they take the quiet the exhaust by baffles inside the straight pipes.
The sound is like a Corvette with side-pipes but the noise goes out the back and while driving it does not bother you. The only time it gets louder is when you are in a tunnel.... The one bad thing about these louder than stock exhaust systems is that you shouldn't use them if you use a parking garage. The last time I went inside a parking garage I must have set off 20 alarms at least on each level.
I have had these two systems for close to twenty years and they are still going strong.
On our 1988 Coupe the sound is wonderful inside the car, you can actually enjoy the stereo while cruising.
On the 1968 BB Convertible it really sounds awesome. On the convertible it gets a bit louder on the highway but still very livable.
Allen's Stainless Exhaust in Indiana makes them for a lot of Corvettes.
On my 1968 it is a complete system that attaches to the long tube headers. On the 1988 it was a "Cat-Back" system attached to a high flow catalytic converter. I did the installation here in my driveway with no additional help.
I wish you luck finding the system that you can live with! By the way, when a car or motorcycle is popping while decelerating it means that the engine is running lean or their is an air leak.
