In the autoparts world a large number of parts are returned. The wicked thieves among us take advantage of this by placing old, bad, wrong parts in boxes when they send them back. I am guessing that was an actual SW505, but in todays world of autoparts we are unfortunately exposed to the "bad parts & bad people" syndrome.
Standard Motor Products TS-136, this is the one you want! I use this on my '84, I tried over a half dozen different suggestions (ALL of the usual suspects)...none of them operated as reported or intended. It's been a few years, but I'm 99% sure the TS-136 is the cross-reference equivalent of the Buick Grand National and TA turbo switch (like mentioned above). I've suggested this switch in a number of threads...ON~215°F...OFF~195°F. Good quality construction going 5 years strong, same in my brother-in-law's '84 TA! I found Rock Auto to have the lowest price and last time I checked, they still had them! Believe me, I spent a lot of time, money and got very quick at pulling the switch and stuffing in a new one without draining the antifreeze to discover the switch that actually works within this temperature range with consistency! Good luck👍

Just an update on this, a second SW 505 from autozone arrived and has the same style bullet connector the original OEM fan switch had with the flat area at the tip of the cone. I tested the new switch and it clicks into my 87's original connector perfectly. It appears as I may have actually received a thiefs return, the collar where the metal meets the ceramic is different (see pics above). Also, autozones limited lifetime warranty simply means "30 days".

Vet's-Vet: You're saying you think the 1st sensor you received was used, where this one is good? It plugs in and works fine? (Though you skipped the important part of confirming on/off values. From what I posted years ago, it LOOKS like this sensor should be closer to Vette OEM temps vs the lower one suggested in recent posts.)
Most all the posts I have seen from third gen and such show a 213° on 195 off. I have yet to install this one and the first one I got I believe was not an SW505 but was in a 505 box. Look at the area where the plastic meets the metal. It is so different I believe someone repackaged a product and returned it.
Give me a week or so and I should have the answer.

for future readers, i did the same wth ts136 and its excellent. expensive but excellent
You would need to check and confirm temps but a BWD TF58 is an accepted after-market. It's also mentioned to be an accepted for the GM # 3053190. How available and how many $$$? I don't need so I haven't searched. It was never inexpensive. When removed from GM it looks to have been 40+$$.
Give me a week or so and I should have the answer. Or a month or so....or a fiscal quarter or so?
So, 5 months later, a Kenwood excelon, carpet, kilmat and spindles replaced with heim joints and now it's time for the cooling system (again). I did a stovetop test (hard time at boiling point getting it to switch) of the TS136 and indeed it was as @'78CorvetteS.A. and @VikingTrad3r stated, my somewhat accurate test was ON @ 213° and OFF at 198°. The test was accurate enough to know it is what I want. So what about the accuracy of the SW505?? I don't know, I can't find it, it's here somewhere..........
Have a nice day

For future reference for anyone trying the "boil test", at sea level, the temperature of the water will never exceed 212 F. Adding a cup or so of sugar to the boiling pan will allow the temperature to rise above 212 F.
