Default Coolant temp sensors

OK, how many sensors are there and which ones control what?

Specifically, I am having a problem with erratic readings on my digital temp gauge. The gauge will sometimes read accurately, an appropriate reading for what the analog gauge displays, and sometimes will jump around wildy, like 180, 170, 60, LO, 180, etc.

So where does the digital gauge get its reading and what else should be reading from there?

BTW, I'm trying to track down an intermittant stumble/miss and there appears to be a correlation.

I don't know if the LT4 is different but on my LT1 there are two coolant temp sensors. One on the passenger side of the block and one on the front of the waterpump. The one on the block is where the analog reading comes from, the one on the waterpump is where the digital reading comes from. Hope that helps.

Thanks, do you know which one the ECM uses?
