LT4 Hotcam install question
He has a 95 auto. Question is, does the cam simply slide in, or does it have to go in a certain way? Also, what is the gear on the back of the cam for?

Gear at the rear is for 'oil pump drive'! Just slide in? Yes and requires appropriate indexing at front cam/crank drive mechanism.

Do one, or both motor mounts need to be removed?

Mounts need to be unbolted to raise the motor enough for the cam to slide out/in

He got the factory cam out. No, I started this thread cause he was unsure of some stuff. He lives about 5 hours away, would have loved to help with the install.

Ok so he finished the cam install Sunday night. It started up fine. Now, all you hear is the starter turning while trying to start it. Any ideas?

I'm betting valves adjustment as well. He said the opti went in easily.

It started up fine, but won't start now? How long did it run for? Has anyone checked the basics (fuel and spark)?

It keeps bending pushrods, for whatever reason. He has stock pushrods in it. 7.2 in size. Anyone have any ideas?

Is he adjusting them right, and at the right time and in the right order?
It would be relatively easy for a beginner to mess this up.

Probably not. Forgot to mention, this is on a friends car. We'll have to find out how to adjust them the right way.

Oh wow..
Tell him to
STOP till he's sure he knows how to do it properly.. Before he bends a valve/more valves.

Will do. Ok. Only a pushrod on cylinder 8 keeps bending.

I would use a bore scope and see if something is on piston in #8

If there's one obviously bent, I bet there are more.
You can quick check them by rolling on a piece of glass.. Takes 2 seconds.
