I am new to this forum so be gentle please. I just Purchased a 1987 coupe ( my first vette) I was driving and it just quit running. I thought it may be the fuel pump. I started checking for power at the pump and had nothing, went to the relay and no power anywhere went to the oil pressure switch and nothing also nothing at the fuse any ideas will be helpfull
If the engine cranks but will not start you have to ck for fuel control. Use Injector noid light for tpi. If it flashes then you have fuel control, If not look at ignition module and or pickup coil/crank sensor.

welcome to the forum....you'll get lots of help here.....1st, do the basics...get a GM fsm....and a pressure gauge....it's an absolute necessity....you must have codes in your DIC that should help...jump pins A and B on your ALDL and read the flashes...the only way to know if the pump is working is a pressure gauge....it only turns on for 2 sec when you turn the car on....the fuel pump relay will "click" when you turn the key on....good luck....

I knowi need the fsm and that is on the list to get i have never had to deal with many electrical issues in the past but the car is 31 years old and going to be a challenge but i am looking forward to the challenges thanks for the help.

If you are keeling this car for any length of time, get a s canner so you can see data that the ECM is seeing instead of relying on codes which can be misleading unless something is FUBAR
Also note, at least in my 91, the pump prime doesn't happen every time. It has a certain duration of a couple minutes before it allows another prime.

What made you think pump? Lets try this. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and turn the key to run. It should prime for 2 seconds. After which, you can turn it off and see how long it holds the pressure.
When you say "quit running", what exactly happens? Does the motor die and won't crank or will it crank but won't run?

the motor shut off it just stopped running during acceleration and has not restarted
the motor shut off it just stopped running during acceleration and has not restarted
So does it crank at all?
If it cranks and doesn't keep running on it's own power, spray a little ether into the throttle body and NOT on the MAF. If it runs for a second, it is fuel related. Does the fuel rail pressurize? Remove an injector, plug the noid light, crank. If it lights up, move on.
I used the starter spray and it started but would not run. I have no pressure at the rail
Let's look at the fuel pressure regulator hose. Make sure it isn't having a massive leak when you prime it. After that, have your assistant turn the key to run and you probe the fuel pump power lines. You should have only a couple seconds of power since it is priming. If you do not, we look electrical.
I checked for power at the pump and i am not getting any i checked that when i did not hear the pump priming have checked it several times to make sure

Did you hook up a DVOM at the pump wires, check for 0 V and have someome turn the key to run without cranking and still see 0? If so, you are not getting voltage there.
Will do as soon as possible I will let you know what i find out
Thing is, the pump works like this. Key on, it will prime 2 seconds. After which, it waits. The ECM will run the pump if it sees engine RPM. Lets say you drove off a cliff while getting road "entertainment". Do you really want the pump to keep going? It might be dousing the engine with fuel if there is a leak. No RPM, no fuel pump relay activation

i had similar problem. Take apart gas box in back where you fill up and inside there clean the wires going to the pump.
The way you describe your event it sounds like a relay might have gone bad. The fuel pump has a relay on the drivers side mounted on the firewall.
You might want to check the fuses in the car. On the passenger's side of the dash towards the door is the main fuse block. Using the Volt Ohm meter test both sides of each fuse. There is one there for the fuel pump, be sure it has full battery voltage.
I have seen the fuses not conduct electricity even though they were not burned out. As a matter of fact they all "looked" perfect but would not conduct any power through them. If you find one of these be sure to clean the Fuse Block connectors and install new fuses to be safe. This is why you should test both sides of each fuse.
While at the fuse box check the voltage compared to the Battery voltage. They should be very close. If not you have dirty connections somewhere in your electrical system.
Verify your fuel pump relay is working. I keep a spare of that particular relay in the car as it is used in many places. My car had an issue with the fuel pump at one time. By starting at the back of the car at the fuel pump wiring and try to power up the fuel pump using an alligator clip. I use a gadget called a "Power Probe" as it speeds up the diagnosing part and helps get my car fixed faster. While testing the positive wires for power be sure to test your ground wires as well.
Good Luck with your car! It won't be long before you are out cruising again! Also welcome to the world of Corvettes and to this Corvette Forum!
