Default l98 Oil Leak

Just purchased a 1986, checked the oil before purchasing looked good, checked under the car for drips and nothing. Drove the car home and smelled burning oil just figured in needed valve cover gaskets. when i checked the dipstick nothing and oil was dripping on the ground . Motor sounds fine, no knocking or tapping. Where the hell did my oil go, could it be a bad oil cooler or pan gasket?

I would check a couple things
1 behind distributor the oil pressure sender and fuel pressure sensor.
2 tighten valve covers
Oil under pressure will leak down the side of the back of engine dripping onto exhaust.

Gotcha. They wash the hell out of the motor BEFORE the sale and don't do much driving other than what they absolutely need. I always suggest a PDI before purchase. I absolutely distrust the PO.

Might I suggest you wash it all off and dump some dye in it and go for a short drive around the block so you can see what is where before we go throwing parts at it? If nothing, go for another couple blocks. What this does is not flood everything and lets us see what is happening.
