i am in the process of building a 427 small block stroker, i want to use the stock tpi injection system, i know very little about these, what size injectors should i run? is there any upgrades i should get? any chips? i am also looking into a supercharger for the tpi is that a good investment? what upgreades will that need?
any info is appreciated
The guys at TPIS know there stuff. Do a search and check out there stuff. They make complete ready to install TPI setups, and when I say complete I mean complete. If I had to take a guess I would say the 36 lb injectors are proabably what you want, but those guys are the experts so I would ask them. There site is impressive with pics and info on every part they make and sell.
Thats like putting a 200cfm carb on 502. The Tpi cant flow nearly enough air to feed the 350 past 4500rpm, what do you think it would do on a 427. Youve gotta put the SC on it to get anything, and you should put a Superram or Miniram on it instead of the TPI to get anything w/o the SC.
Chips are camshaft dependent, so any cam change with EFI will require a chip change, unless the stock cam specs are very similar.
Not sure about injectors, but id guess it would have to be #30s or bigger.
Although you should do a search on 427 and 434 stroker, don't even think about TPI for a 427. At best, the TPiS Big mouth base and runners which net @ 400 HP (which airflow limited).
My best advice to you is to get dyno2000 or engine analyzer to find out exactly what you want and how affordable it is to get there. (As a side note a set of heads that will flow enough air to make a 427 worthwhile will run you 3K-4K. Given that why would you ever spend 4K only to put out 400HP????)
I would start looking at the TPI mini-ram (whose peak HP will be 1000 rpm higher than a single plane manifold prediction), then to start looking at converting single plane or race intake to EFI.
where would i get a better intake, i was looking at one edelbrock makes is that any good?, sorry for all these stupid questions im just really old school, i like carbs! :)
For an intake that can feed a 427, youll need a Superram or Miniram.
If your car is a stick, id go miniram, TPiS sells them, all you need is the MR and the fuel rail kit. Its a one piece design, no separate plenum or runners. It makes alot of HP and i think it will be well matched to the torquey 427.
If the car is automatic, you should go Superram, Lingenfelter sells it. Its alot like the TPI, just bigger and can feed the motor at higher rpm. Its a plenum, runners, base manifold design.
But a SR will work just as good on a stick, and a MR will work just fine on an automatic too. It depends on what you want.
Then select a cam to go with the intake, both LPE and TPiS sell a cam designed for use with their intakes.
