Not sure if it is the same on vettes, but I had that issue with a Ferrari 308. Took the window motor out, and essentially rebuild it. The old grease was hardening up, and binding the motor. Could be something to check out.
good luck

Mine kept getting slower and slower until the passenger side finally died, it just keot progressing until it didn't work any more. My driver's side goes through spells where it will go fast and then go slow, so I think it may be dying too...

Jmac-

Send me an email, and I can describe how to rebuilt the window motors. It's really easy.

Had the same problem on the drivers side. Took the doors completely apart and lubed the track that the ribbon travels on. That helps IF the problem is a dry track. I used graphite and it seems to work OK. However the window still was not going as quick as the other side and not as fast as I wanted so I pulled the entire regulator out and replaced the motor. Got a rebuilt one from PepBoys for about $44 with core charge. The 85 uses the same motor on both doors, it just flips over depending on the side.

I do recommend taking the regulator out since getting the motor off is MUCH easier. I think there are some threads or tech tips on this, but basically the routine is;

1. Remove door panel
2. Remove the center metal inside panel with the door handle on it.
3. Mark the position of the nuts that hold the window onto the white bracket otherwise it is a bear to re-adjust. I used black spray paint. Just drop the window down into the bottom of the door. You do NOT need to take it out.
4. Mark and remove the two nuts on top and two bolts under the door holding the regulator in place.
5. Rotate the bottom of the regulator to the front of the car until the top clears the opening, then reverse the rotation and remove it from the door.
6. Drill out the pop rivets that hold the motor.
7. (optional step) Take advantage of having the door this far apart and remove the $%*&# Bose speaker boxes from the door and deposit them in the trash bin. :)
8. Replace motor and reverse the procedure.

Getting the lock and door latch linkages off and back on are sometimes a pain. I left the lock linkage in place and just pulled it out of the metal panel. The door latch linkage needs to be unhooked from the latch mechanism.

Final thought; The ribbons are fairly cheap and wear out way too soon. You might want to get them and replace at the same time.

PS; now that you have everything apart you can also;
1 remove, clean and lube the door latch
2. remove the outter window weather strip (easy to replace w/o window)
3. remove the door handle and mirror.
4. great time to repaint the door!!

Isn't it typical of Vettes to start out doing one job and ending up doing 6 more?

This is a known problem with the 84, 85 and early 86. It was fixed in the mid86s on. Here is the article in Corvette Magazine that shows how to upgrade to the later system.

I just had to replace the drivers side track. I was given this thread and it gives a step by step on how to repair and take the door apart. http://www.madvet.com/pdf/603939.pdf
I hope it helps you. :D

It's getting colder and colder. :D In the summer time my windows go up like rockets, but when the cold rolls around they slow down:confused:. Hopfully thats all your problem is.
