1996 Window alignment, not window guide
I have recently received a 96 corvette coupe LT4 6 speed. This is my 3rd corvette but my first C4. Of course the windows are hitting the pillars. I ordered new window guides and installed the passenger one and BOOM the window lined up perfectly in the very extremely worn out weatherstripping. Onto the drivers side I go....
I take off the of the door panel and the aluminum inner plate etc. only to find there was no window guide installed. Not a nut or a bolt or any pieces of it in the bottom of the door. I did find small pieces of glass in the bottom of the door. This tells me the glass has been replaced and the installer did not properly finish the job. A local Chevy dealer had one last bolt and nut for the window guide. Got it home and installed the window guide. Set the front and rear stops in their original positions, I marked them before I loosened it all up. I raised the window up and it is now perfectly straight but only about 1/8" from the top. So it is resting on the outside of the upper weatherstripping not down in the slot but at least under the metal retainer. I move the stops all the way down as far as they can go. Now the window lines up better at the top but at the front of the window is too far away from the weatherstripping that runs next to the windshield. There is a huge gap there and it leaks.
I need to adjust the glass in the mount. It needs to be lower by about a 1/4" and forward about a 1/4" Then I can do the final fit into the weather stripping with the stops. Is there a manual or a step by step on how to install and adjust the glass? I have searched some on the web but haven't found much. Figured I would ask here as I am sure some of you have had to do this. I know this will be a tedious job but that'a ok I like figuring out these sorts of things and adding new cuss words to my vocabulary along the way.
Thanks in advance.
Doug
