1993 manual trans Q's
I recently purchased my first corvette! cheers. Love the thing already. Its a 1993 black removeable hardtop with the zf 6 speed. I purchased it with a grinding noise coming from the transmission. Due to a time-crunch, I had a jiffy lube perform a transmission flush. They made no mention of metal flecks, the noise stayed around. After taking it to a local mechanic shop they said it would need to be replaced. They quoted a 5,000$ job which is more than I paid for the car. So i'm trying to take things into my own hands. Just made this account, and two days ago traveled to arizona and picked up a 6 speed from a 91, black tag. The man said he was a forum member but I didn't catch his tag. I'm just curious as to tips and things to watch out for as I put this new/used transmission in. Curious on tips about replacing clutch and flywheel? looking for reliability that can handle some abuse. I don't race at strips but I do have a bit of a lead foot and things tend to not hold up all the time.

To work on your car you will want to get factory service manuals Ebay is a good place to look. The "C" beam attaches to the extension housing of transmission and supports both engine and transmission. You will want to support engine so it does not rest against composite "firewall". Weight of the engine can crack it. I would separate transmission from bell housing. removing and installing. The flywheel is a dual mass type if it's scored you may want to opted for a solid flywheel and applicable clutch assembly. You will also want to check to be sure speedometer gears are the same. The gears are color coded so if the colors are the same it should be ok. If not you will need to replace or transfer them.
