The upper is for the TEMP GAUGE right cylinder head. You either ordered or were sold the incorrect part. The part you bought is used a a 'single pin' sender and is thought to be correct for your car unless the original was changed to a different design.
If you use a GM# as a reference you'll get a correct part. These GM part# would be good to use as a reference 15326386, 12146312 or 25036979. The first number is I believe the GM 'most current' and the second from most GM SPO publications from the C4 era.
