I know , I know, this topic has been posted many times. But I'm looking for something specific, and I can't find the answer :cry So please bear with me......I'd like to remove the relay associated with CAGS. In a 1990, does anyone know exactly which one it is? I know it with throw an engine code, which is fine, until I get the disconnect kit to do it right. And yes, I need to get a service manual :jester First one with the correct answer gets a free case of beer! Just kidding :D
Just unplug the connector to the solenoid on the left side of the transmission. The first-to-fourth light will still be displayed on the instrument panel, but it won't set any codes.
The kits available are nothing more than covers for the open ends of the unplugged connector.
I plug mine back in once a year to see if it still works, and after a day or so I can't wait to unplug it again!
I'll pass on the beer, but good bottle of Merlot would be nice...

Re: I Hate CAGS (bradvette)
Piece of cake! The connector is on the driver's side of the tranny about half way up from the bottom, about 3/4 the way towards the rear. Just unplug and get the disconnect kit when you can to plug those connectors. You'll feel really bad when you see how easy it is to end the suffering. :D
You can buy $$$$ a bypass from all these Corvette Central...Ecklers....Mid AMERICA.....They all have these products....easy to install.... :smash: :smash: :smash:
Unless you plan on driving in a lot of rain you can probably get by with electrical tape and tie-wraps. Then check every time during an oil change. :yesnod:
Yes, I too hate CAGS. Even Dave McClellan, C4 Chief Engineer hated CAGS. It was put on there to improve the fuel average like .1 mile per gallon or so. Maybe a little more. They wanted to make sure the C4 was not branded a gas guzzler. At a meeting with the press, he made sure everyone knew what wire to cut.
Should you not want to crawl under the car, the relay for the cags solenoid is back on the fire wall near the battery. When you get the factory service manual, you can locate the relay and just unplug this until you get the kit. I did the kit. Didn't want a wire plug dangling around a connector.
I've got a '90, just unplugged the connector from the tranny. My shift-up light does not stay on. I have no codes thrown. Unplug it now, CAGS is horrible!!
