There are two sensors. One is in the water pump, the other is in the head. The one in the head is there just for the analog gauge. The digital gauge and the ECM reads from the sensor in the pump. I don't know where in the stream this is at.
Does the coolant temp sensor read the coolant temp after the coolant has been run through the radiator and is enroute to the heads?
My '93 manual does not answer the question. I would GUESS that the temp is recorded before it is routed through the radiator. I would think that we would want to know the temp of the coolant coming from the engine, rather than the temp coming from the radiator.
The coolant temperature sensor in the water pump measures the temperature just before the coolant goes back to the radiator.
The order of flow for the reverse flow LT1/LT4:
1) from the radiator into one section of the water pump
2) through the thermostat
3) through the heads
4) down through the block
5) back to the the other section of the water pump and the coolant temperature sensor
6) back to the radiator
