Default Oil temp sensor

96 LT4

Over the weekend drove approx 800 miles round trip. Oil temp (digital) never read over 175, most of the time in the mid 160's. Presuming temp sensor is most likely failing.

Searching for replacement, I come up with AC Delco part generally listed as no longer available. Searching generically, lots of places want to sell me multi-purpose sensor (oil, coolant, blah blah) which doesn't look right.

Would appreciate the benefit of others' experience. Looks simple enough to change if I don't break the connector. Part sources? Tips? Watch out for? TIA

It looks like rockauto.com might be your guy:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...re+switch,4592

Does this look like the one?

EDIT:
Scratch that, I bet its this one:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...re+sender,5704

I didn't know if the first one was both pressure and temp since it was a 3 wire.

EDIT 2:
Shoot, that one doesn't look like the ACDelco one. I'll keep looking.

The first link I posted looks like the sensor that was discontinued, could that be it?

Advance Auto also carries one like that, I can like you if you'd like.

Thanks for looking. I looked at RockAuto just a day or two ago and they showed only the Ramco one for $7.78 and I was skeptical of it. NAPA says they have one (Echlin) for $48! So I guess I can get one somewhere. I'll probably wait until next oil change to replace. Do you suppose there are negative consequences (ECM for example) of not being in a hurry to replace this? Again, thank you for your help.

Glad you could find it! It is a 5 volt sensor, so unless it it completely melted and shorted inside, it wouldn't hurt the ECM. For reference, I hooked my MAP sensor up backwards when I was doing my conversion (ground to 5volts, 5 volts to ground), and the only ill effect was the car wouldn't start until I fixed it, since the input to the ECM was garbage. As long as there is some resistance left in the sensor, all will be fine.

And, for what it's worth, these sensors usually fail 'open', meaning they jusy increase in resistance until their signal to the ECM is essentially non-existent.

So short answer: you'll be fine, I doubt the ECM even looks at this sensor for anything meaningful, since it's only really useful for the dash dusplay.
