I have a problem with my 92 6-spd. It runs fine when I'm not getting on it, but at WOT, when am aproaching red line it seems to misfire. Misfire might be the wrong term but it sputters.
As far as I know everything is original. Except for the cut lid and K & N. She has 79,500 miles on her.
sounds like it may be time to replace plugs, wires, and coil. Maybe opti?
Timspeed might be on the money. Try the simpler things(i.e. wires and plugs, don't forget the fuel filter too) then if that doesn't solve it, it's more than likely your opti-spark.
If low end driveablity is ok but when you romp on it and it doesn't go anywhere over a certain RPM (except floating the engine) it might be time to replace a partial or almost clogged fuel filter. I've seen this before. Good luck
Most likely it's ignition related. If the car runs, the fuel filter is fine.
I had the same exact problem earlier this year. It was the coil wire rubbing against the water pump that grounded it out. Sometimes the car wouldn't start, sometimes at high RPM it would sputter, well before I hit the rev limiter.
Also, make sure you aren't hitting the rev limiter(factory set at 5850 RPM).
Thanks for all the help guys. I'll be doning the fuel filter, plugs wires and coil wire very shortly. My main concern was the opti and since I have a few more things to try before I get to that I am a much happier man today :D
