The correct fluid is 5/30 in either standard or synthetic. The dealer has this as well as a bmw dealer. Or if you can find a castrol dealer that can get the 5/30 castrol. Do not play games with other fluids. The results over the life of your trans will come back to find you. A so called trans expert in seattle changed the fluid in mine to 90/120 valvoline. After the car warmed up the grease would turn to foam. Try to shift that.! It took two changings of the grease to get the system clean. Hope this helps.
Not just any 5w30, GM has a special GL-3 5w30 for the ZF6. Also, I do believe the BMW M5 tranny fluid is a synthetic Castrol 10w60 (I could be wrong) but either way, when you ask for it be sure to specify that GM part number from above or make sure you are getting the M5 transmission oil.
I believe the BMW oil is the motor oil for M5's, so if you ask for the tranny fluid, you might get the wrong one. In any case, use the part number above
:)
