If anyone can give me a clue, I'd appreciate it. My speedometer worked perfectly until I pulled my valve covers to replace the gaskets. After I got it back together, I took it for a drive and the speedometer still lights up, but just stays on zero no matter how fast I go. Obviously I must have knocked something loose, but for the life of me I don't know what it could be. Any help is appreciated.
double check the "TACH" connection on the side of the distributor. beside a distributor harness, there should be two single wires, one, pink, for +12V ignition, and a white wire for the tach. also, follow that white wire down to the tack filter which is bolted to the aft side of the LH cylinder head, and double check all connections. since you said you've replaced the VC gaskets, something may have been disconnected in the process.
edit: NOT SURE WHY I WAS THINKING "TACH" - ??? have to blame it on old age, or some parallel universe thing -
there's a sensor in the side of the tranny...driver's side...two wires come out of it and run up....if either is broken....no speedo...just my 2cents...happened to me......
'Joe C' seemed to think so and his thoughts certainly would apply if you meant tachometer.
If it actually isn't then you start 'under-car' where 'playsdixie' mentions and you should certainly have a CEL (Check Engine Light).
damn - don't see where the OP edited his thread. could have sworn I read "tach." oh well, not the first time I screwed up, and certainly not the last -
