Default coolant temp

What is considered a 'normal' operating temp for a 92 LT1. My new thermostat opens at ~185 and at idle for 10 minutes the digital gauge reads 200. On the road between 185 and 210 with 60 degree weather. I think I bleed the system well enough and there is plenty of coolant. I also see a steady stream of coolant coming into the high coolant tank.

That seems to be about right. I sometimes see as much as 220-224 idling in traffic before the secondary fan cuts in and drops the temp back to 197-200.

On really hot days I see about 205-215 but I keep the A/C running and that forces the secondary fan to run constantly.

 Not sure about your car, but my 88 runs 175 or less in 60 degree weather. In traffic or long idle, will creep up to 215.

Have you ever removed the radiator and cleaned it and the area in front of it?

These things (C4's) are vacuum cleaners...sucking all manner of stuff up into the radiator area.

You might want to pull the radiator.

175  , Finally got to test drive my 88 today after two years on jack stand. New radiator, new engine, new heater core, new rack and pinion, all new hoses, new starter, new fuel pump, new brake (GS calipers) all new rotors... 60 degree weather, and the lowest I got was 188. Kept checking the oil pressure and temp. since I got total seal rings. The oil temp. stay around 200-215 and pressure at 45 psi. All this at 60-65 mph.

Yes, it's true!

Here's my stats...Today, at 65 degree outside temps, running on local roads with some stop and go, water temp 172, oil 188. Oil pressure 65+

Yesterday, in a one hour, slow moving "HOMECOMING PARADE", water 215, oil 227, pressure 60+

During the summer, outside temps 90degree, while running, water temps 178, oil 196, pressure 60+

In traffic, water will creep up to 210 if lots of stop and go

I run Amzoil 20-50

Car ran a lot warmer till I pulled and cleaned the radiator. I have a 180 thermo and a 205 fan switch.

This will really scare you, it does me, temps below 50 degrees, car runs 169 water, 174 oil

How long does it take to cool it off when the aux fan comes on at idle? Or... do you have an auxiliary fan?

I HAD an aux fan (it's for sale if anybody wants it). It seemed that every time I turned it on (fans are on a manual switch) the car would get hotter.

I removed it and installed my own heavy duty cooling - 4 pass/circuit, 2 circuit engine/tranny oil cooler :D .
