I have a 91 and Iam going to replace the master cyl, it has two plastic brake fluid reservoirs, the 91 shop man I have says I need 2 special tools to put the reservoirs on the new master cyl the tool # are J34121-1 and J 34121-2 where can I find these tools I would appresate any help. :D
I have done this job before and when I purchased the new master cylinder it came with 2 new plastic reservoirs already installed. Did yours not come with the reservoirs or have you not purchased the MC yet?
I just read an article on doing this R&R in Vette, Dec. 2002 and the two recommended tools are Snap On flare nut wrenches (12mm & 14mm, $70 total). I'm not sure if those are the part numbers though; perhaps Scrop508 can verify though.
They are thicker than standard open-end wrenches so they don't distort under presure and expand slightly which could cause slipping and rounding the edges of the two brake line nuts. If that happens it may be necessary to replace those nuts.
I will likely look to Sears Craftsman when the time comes to do my master cylinder.
They are used to remove the hard lines, not the plastic reservoirs. You do want to use line wrenches as opposed to standard open end wrenches, so you don't round off those flared fittings.
These flare wrenches are a necessity for this job - standard wrenches have the potential to round off the nut and make for a frustrating task. Most local part stores carry these and most definite Sears.
How do u replace the master cyl for the clutch... Mine is leaking clutch fluid... i always have to refill it like once a month... How much does a master cyl for the clutch run???
I just replaced the mc on my '84, and the reseviors popped off the old one with a little effort. The new mc came with new rubber fittings, I removed them from the mc, then put them into the reservoirs. Then I pushed them on and used a screwdriver and a lot of patience to get the seals all the way seated and in place. Hope this helps.
