Has anyone here changed the LCD lens on the speedometer on a C4. I just bought one thinking it was the whole instrument. When it came today it is just a brand new LCD lens. I am wondering if anyone else has done one and if it cured the problem?? Thanks, Gary
I was wondering how difficult is it to remove the old LCD lens to install the new one??
If you have an 84-89 "atari style " cluster I would say that on a scale to 1-5 it is a 3 difficulty to replace the anti-glare film. That's probably what you are looking at. I did it on my 86, and you must remove the cluster from the dash, completely dismantle it and pull the 3 LCD units from the cluster. Then you must carefully remove the old material with a razor blade and clean off the residue. The new films are polarized and oriented properly in a certain direction which if not done right will cause them not to work. They were well marked. If any of the black paint on the backside of the LCD units is damaged now is the time to touch that up. If your LCD units themselves are no good then replacing them I would say is a 2 difficulty.
On Youtube Crazyuncleburton has many videos from Batee.com that help a lot.:
I have changed the one on my 94 LT1 and it is not difficult. There is a video on YouTube 90-96 Corvette #5 - Replacing the LCD Connector. It will give you an idea of how to remove and replace it. I actually got my led from them before they started repairing them.
