Rebuilding 700r4
When racing my prior '88 with a 2,000rpm TCC I could launch at ~1,900rpm and get a real shot out of the hole.
The shift kit allowed her to "wag" her tail on a moderate throttle 1-2 upshift.
If you raise those shift points you likely will need hotter ign as I've read that our OEMs tend to fall off up there. I had gone with the Hypertech coil/cap/rotor combo.
upgrade to the stamped "bonded" pistons from the 4l60e.
You will likely also need the spring cages to go along with the different pistons.
Also air check everything, get the atsg manual and the update manual for the 700r4 and the 4l60e, it covers the updates and backwards compatible stuff.
and besides using the ATSG manual I watched this guy rebuild one from start to finish
Good luck. TAKE YOUR TIME!! and take lots of photos.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Since internet asshattery doesn't pay what it used to, I own a transmission shop. If you have any questions I'll be happy to help if I can.
Unfortunately, I have no experience with Monster Transmission.
I bought a stage 3 kit that had the good clutches, steels, bearings, seals and gaskets but they cheaped out everywhere else.
For one, they sent me a pump rotor kit that was generic, it ended up shattering not even a year later.
Then they sent me another generic important part, the forward sprag, generic no name part that was a single cage...
these parts in a "stage 3" kit was just a joke.
I understand the need to buy a kit, for my first time it was easier and less confusing...
I also found it odd that they offered no actual upgraded parts... But those kits are all about making the seller as much money as possible.
Check the interwebs, i bet you have a transstar somewhere near you (if you live anywhere near a city).
there are also a few other names out there, but thats where the local shops get their stuff from.

When i stop in, i try to have my parts list ready to rock, knowing that they deal with pros i don't want to take up any more of their time than i have to.
You can do your rebuild basic, or go wild.
However if your trans functions fine, and it's not actually toast now then it's up to you how far you go.
I bought my kit off of ebay, i ended up replacing much of it, bit i did use the clutches, steels, most of the seals, the servo it came with went in my S10, and most of the bearings i used.
The "kit" is like an engine rebuild "kit" it's the soft parts and cheap stuff.. Clutches and steels if you want them.
The real money is in hard parts. I like to choose those myself. I use WIT as a parts source. The quality is generally good and I like them. Toured their facility once and a friend of the owner trained me in transmissions years ago.
Transtar absorbed the company that used to be ATC and I don't care much for them anymore.

Secondly, I agree with the poster who suggested that this might be something for a guy who has done hundreds of them. If you forget one tiny BB sized ball in a check valve or whatever you are doing the whole removal and replacement on top of fixing the damage caused. I have seen my 1988's 700R4's taken apart and there were a lot of small pieces. I was fortunate that the mechanic who rebuilt mine allowed me to be involved (to a very limited extent) and watch while he was rebuilding my transmission. My transmission was rebuilt to handle a bit more power than the stock unit and it was still a bargain.
I hope that which ever way you go that you get a good job done!
There is also an extra wide sun gear bushing, and the beefy sunshell.
I went with the generic "beast" sunshell while I was at it.
With the miles you have, I would also replace the planetary gear set for front and rear...
I have the full forward sprag assembly out of a 2000 4l60e (ebay), however I replaced the sprag clutch bearing with a double cage borgwarner unit (29 sprag), I also did the same with the rear sprag, got a unit out of a 2002 4x4. Gave me a much wider and beefier unit.
For my front and rear planetary gearsets, they are out of a low mileage 4l65e...
I bought the whole assembly.
Where I'm going, lots of upgrades available, and GM was good enough to make them backwards compatible, even with my super early 84.
