Hello,
I'm new to the this forum, and I hope somebody can give me some needed info. I have an 87 vette and I would like to reprogram my ecm to disable the cold start injector. I have a set of runners that does not have the connection for the cold start injector and I would like to get rid of it anyway. Does anybody know what changes to the programming need to be made to the disable that and have the main injectors take over. My ECM is a 7165, the car is automatic, current changes to programming are VATS delete and fans on at 180 off at 165 with a 160 degree thermostat.
I don't think you have to do anything. Just leave the plug lay there and don't plug it into anything. That's what I did with mine when I put in my mini-ram. I don't think the computer cares if anything is hooked up to that plug. I think there might be a way to program the computer to give it an extra shot for startup with just the main injectors but somebody else must know more about that than me. Good luck.
The above stated is true: The ECM does not control the cold start injector, and it will fire w/o it. For people in real cold climates, this may take some cranking before it fires. To corect for the missing fuel, adjust the fue/coolant temp table. (I'm not sure what cal you are using) There is always a table that relates fuel to coolant temp. Some even have fuel for air temp, corrections.
My '87 takes a little longer to crank now that I have removed the CSV. I am also told that adjusting the crank multiplier can help for the startup condition. And yes, the '165 has a coolant temp vs. fuel table.:)
I did read something awhile back about making a computer change to make up for the missing fuel at startup. I will check that out. Thanks to everyone for all their help.
