Default sway bar question

hey, Can someone tell me if the front swaybar on 1984 c4 should be able to move freely up and down when the end links are disconnected.
Just replaced bushings with polys and grease but the bar is extremely tight. I read a couple posts. Some saying its not supposed to move and others saying it is not supposed to move.

any help would b appreciated.

If the end links arent attached, it will move... Its ok if its tight as long as youre sure the bushing size matches the bar size.

Yes it should move, if it doesn't then its acting like a second spring.

depends how strong you are !

if its old bushes it will move freely, if its new poly bushes then it will be tight. Make sure you lube them inside.

its the hundreds of pounds of spring rate at the swaybar arm that move the bar inside the bushing - not your arms.

but like xxfire said if its too tight it starts to add spring rate - but thats probably not a bad thing if youve got an old stock bar. Some racers actually use clamping on the bushing to change the swaybar rate.

Thanks for your help..I read somewhere people placing spacers in between the U bracket and the top plate to reduce load on the bushings..I tried that and the car sat a bit lower and the suspension felt like it had more travel..Not sure about this being a good thing i removed the spacers (about .25) and put it back to original way and the suspension is definitly more stiff this way..
Any input on this?

Pretty sure I read that too. I thought it was on this thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/autocrossing-and-roadracing/4152743-c4-sway-bars-do-they-really-work.html but skimming through it I don't see it there.
