Default 1991 Intake Manifold and Runners

I finally got the new fuel pressure regulator and injectors for my 1991 Vette. Getting the T40 torx bolts out of the runners was an interesting experience. Going back, they are supposed to be tightened to 32 Ft/Lbs. To remove many of the bolts, I disassembled a 3/8 T40 and put it in a 1/4 socket with a flexible joint and extension... not ideal for torquing them back into place. First time doing fuel injectors on this type of set up. Any suggestions on tools or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

No need for a tq wrench, the ones inside the runner always used a little antizeize and just get them tight, double ck them all.

I made this T40 torx swivel tool using a (craftsman) 1/4" drive - 1/4" swivel socket and a torx bit. over the years, used it a dozen times or so, for those hard to reach bolts, both removing and installing. with various 1/4" drive extensions and a 1/4-3/8 adapter, i was able to torque everything without any problems. a dab of silicone sealer holds the torx bit secure --

I also use regular T40 bit sockets and I have a 5 inch, T40, 3/8 drive torx socket for additional hard to reach bolts.

Okay... great minds think alike. I’m not going to show a picture on mine because I have duct tape hold the Torx bit in place . I thought I was improvising without having one of the “special tools”. Thanks for the suggestions y’all!!!

I can recall how much "fun" it was figuring out how to access a few runner bolts.

I don't think I ever torqued runner bolts, only those on intake base. I did place bolts/parts into zip-lock bags with labels so reassembly would be simplified.

You are lucky to not have that damn 9th injector to fool with when removing the fuel rail...

One of the long 6 inch torx bits helped when I did mine. Those odd angle ones at the base of the runners can be tricky to get to. Other than that, a standard U swivel, some patience, and a 6 pack of choice is all that is needed. Have fun

I bought a ball end T40 torx bit. i'm thinking it allowed up to 20 degree access angle. it worked OK for a while, but the ball end failed during bolt removal. i'm guessing they would be OK for low torque applications. it was just one of those thing I tried that didn't work out. you can get by without it --
