I have been comparing, researching, and doing everything I can to find an exhaust system that I want. I looked at borla, flowmaster, power effects, mid america, ecklers, B&B, and the list goes on and on. I recently purchased a front Y-pipe, 2.5" w/o precats. I just ordered a rear flowmaster Y-pipe from jegs and ZR-1 mufflers (straight through) from mid america. I am also going to get a new cat. I am wondering will I lose any torque because of the straight through muffler design? I'm wondering if it will be too loud. I want my exhaust system to be very loud, but I want to be able to hear myself think. With this system, what gains do you think i'll get in the 1/4? Also, I am worried about emissions. I don't know if I will pass, I might get a pair of slightly used 91 mufflers that will help quiet it down when I go to pass, my mufflers right now are all broken up, so are the cats, so thats why im choosing not to deal with them anymore. Hopefully this system works good enough for me, I was told that you want a less restricive exhaust as possible if you were going to be using nitrous, which I probably will be. I only have some free mods so im hoping to get some decent gains from the exhaust. TIA
Re: Finally decided on an exhaust system (Red91Vette)
It won't be like ProStreet Loud..but it will have a nice tone to it. Good choice on exhaust, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. If you keep the stock cat, it will quiten it down a bit, but with a high flow, it'll be a lot louder.
Re: Finally decided on an exhaust system (Red91Vette)
Well I got bad news, my mufflers are on back order! :mad I don't know how long I am going to have to wait, mid america never has anything in stock! I can't wait to see how loud it sounds, everyone says they never hear my car, so finally I'll be able to turn heads and let everyone know that Im ready to race! But I have to wait atleast another 2 weeks!!!! :sad
Re: Finally decided on an exhaust system (War Machine)
When I installed muffler eliminators (straight through) I noticed a little loss in torque. And no I had not heard about others complaining on here when I first put them on b/c I didn't even know about CF. I was actually expecting a gain and then after driving I noticed a slight decrease in power on the low end. But the sound improvement is worth the hardly noticeable decrease in torque and it probably gained a little bit in the high rpms. If you replaced whole system you might not encounter this problem.
Re: Finally decided on an exhaust system (Red91Vette)
Hey, I ordered my Flowmasters through Summit Racing and got a really good price. I also ordered my Borla Y pipe from them. Maybe you would want to give that a shot.
Re: Finally decided on an exhaust system (Vette9d1)
I was told that if my car was too loud that they would look under my car and only see one cat instead of three and possibly fail me for no having the correct exhaust? I don't know how loud my car is going to be, but I don't think it would fail just because its loud, but it might make them look my exhaust over a lot better! I hope I don't lose too much low end torque since thats all my motor is. I eventully want to change that, with either a SR or MR, and possibly a forged 383 or bigger stroker motor. My brotherhas flowmasters, and he might change the mufflers out to a free flow design too. Flowmasters are the most restrictive aftermarket mufflers out there, so I've been told. Well whenever the exhaust gets here, there is only one way to find out if it helped me, take it to the track! Then after that I'll install the cat and front Y-pipe and see what gains I get. Thank for the replies.
