Default 91 Brake Booster - Needing Help on getting the right part!

Hey everybody!

So when my brake booster started hissing and I lost power brakes, I knew it was time to get myself a new booster. Well, I jump online, find me an AcDelco part # 14PB4073 (a cross reference for GM part # 19286773) that says it's for my year, tear the car down, replace the part, and now the rod that connects to the brake pedal isn't long enough! It's about a half inch from where the old one sat and no longer presses the brake switch. Now, I could adjust the switch way out to touch... but when I couldn't figure it out I went online and found a few people here say the 90-91 booster is actually different, but I couldn't find anybody who had a good lead on where to buy the correct booster, or a part number, or how to find a reman out in the wild. I appreciate your time!

So my questions are:

1. What is the difference between a 84-89 booster, and the 90/91 booster?
2. Does anybody have a part number or links I can go hunting for? The last thing I want to do is ship this AcDelco part back and then have to do this all over again later with another wrong part.
3. There's no adjustment or anything I could be doing wrong that would keep the rod held back or anything, is there? (I admit, I didn't measure them while they were both out of the car.

The difference is the length of the rod. The ECM bracket bolts between the booster and firewall needing more length.
No one I could find has a booster. If you case is ok it can be rebuilt and takes 2 to 3 weeks at best 6 at worst.
GM lists multiple boosters according to the local dealer but has none of them.
The part number I have is 1009674 that has probably been superceded before becoming extinct in GM parts bins.

Hmm... well that sounds like it sucks pretty hard. I do seem to always land the odd-ball years of cars for things like this. The OEM part number I have off what looks like the original cars booster that I took off says "10097674".

So, it sounds like either I have to have mine rebuilt, which will be expensive and take forever. Or... I find somebody with the correct part, somewhere... or... maybe I can just make the one I have now work? I'll have to adjust the sensors quite a bit... but I'll have to get under there to see for sure if I think I can make that happen.

If anybody knows where one is, has one, or a vendor on here has eyes on one, I'm interested while I keep looking at my options. Thanks for the reply.

I did a google search for the part numbers and used ones came up pretty cheap but I guess buyer beware I suppose. You are buying something that is just as old as what you have potentially. It might be worth shopping rebuilders and see if some are faster or cheaper than the rest.

Okay... sooo... since I couldn't find this anywhere, I figure I'll post this up so anybody who is in the same spot I was and stumbles across this thread.

At least in my case... with a 91 C4 base... you actually CAN use the the previous years (or one of those "lumped together") boosters. It WILL move your pedal forward more than you were used to, however, it's still up higher than my gas pedal (though lower than my clutch in my manual car), and if you'll adjust (by pushing) the sensors, they will make proper contact with the pedal bracket. For reference, here's a picture I took. This is my bracket. The sensor on the left is at the original "OEM Booster" level. As you can see, it's a half inch to an inch different. The sensor on the right is one I pushed in to see if I had the room. I did. I also had no issues with the bolts that went through the firewall and had plenty of thread to grab, so no problems there. I took it for a spin (because it was almost all together, might as well before I considered tearing it apart), and besides needing a touch of booster rod to master cylinder adjustment, it stopped great and very easily, and if I hammer the pedal, it's got plenty of travel room and never bottomed out, even when I repeatedly pushed hard enough to engage the ABS in a panic-stop situation. So... I guess there ya go. At least for me, with the AcDelco booster for 84-91... it works.

How much do you want for it? Just bought a 1990 Convertible and the booster is dead.
