I don't think "standard" red locktite will get it done. It's high strength not high heat.
I would use a hi heat two part epoxy adhesive, like JB Weld.

You could also try a product called Rockset, it's used by gunsmiths as a hi-temp threadlocker/adhesive for flash suppressors mounted on gun barrels.

Do you really need an adhesive? Doesn't the magnet hold itself into the steel drain plug?

….. It does … UNTIL a more attractive draw comes along … like when you remove the plug from the pan and find the magnet stuck to the bung it just came out of … that's how I discovered the issue … I'd really rather the magnet and plug were better bonded …..

You should just buy a new magnetic drain plug. They’re only about $5 at the parts store. The adhesive will probably cost more and probably won’t work. Just my $0.02.

John

If you use an adhesive of any thickness you may not be able to push the magnet into the hole. Also, don't put any adhesive into the hole before inserting the magnet.

NOT to hijack this conversation, but what size plug (mm/inches) fits my stock oil pan in a 1996 LT1? What's a good quality magnetic brand to buy?

You could "dimple" the top of the drain plug in a few places around the magnet with a sharp center punch to retain the magnet in the plug.
