I had to replace the gears on the drivers side headlight motor. After I replaced the gears (both large and small) and put everything back together I tried them out and both sides worked perfectly. I cleaned up the tool bench and started it up to check them again and the passenger side assembly would not open. The headlight itself worked but the passenger side would not rotate open.
The drivers side I replaced still works perfect and the motor on the passenger side is not staying on so I don’t think it’s the gears. I rechecked all the plug ins and everything is good and tight. Is there something that I may be missing ? I’m getting ready to place an order tonight for a new housing adjust stop for the drivers side so I would like to get anything I may need to resolve the passenger side issue.

That's a perfect description of dirty limit switches inside the motor. Did you lubricate the motor shaft bearings? The motor shaft needs to shift in its bearings when the headlight door hit its limit stop. This shift is caused by the worm gear on the motor shaft "climbing" the pinion gear when the motor stalls. Clean those switches and lube those bearings, and you'll be surprised what a good job you've got! Use a light weight white grease, like LubriPlate or CRC StaLube on the bearings.

First off THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the reply !!
I did lube the shaft on the assembly that I removed to replace the gears (drivers side). I didn’t do anything to the passenger side assembly. Should I remove the motor on the passenger side and lube it ? If so I may go ahead and get new gears for it while I have it out.

The motor on the passenger side is not staying on so I don’t think it’s the gears.
I agree with your thoughts about the gears in your pass. side motor. I really doubt they need to be replaced. Now that you're experienced with headlight motor repair, the second one should be a snap! Be sure to clean those limit switches!

Thank you for the information. Just updating that I removed the passenger side HL motor, lubed everything up, cleaned all the contact wires and went ahead and put new HL motor gears in while it was out. They are both working great now.
