Default C5 Wheels on a 84 ?

Hi Guys, I came over the C5 Forum with a question.
My nephew purchased an 84 and I got a set of 04 Z06 size Wheels and Tires . He saw the wheels this weekend and fell in love with them.
I'm considering letting him have then after I have the TPMS's pulled out and regular valve stems put in.
Would these wheels fit his C4 or will it need adapters.
Thanks ahead for your help.
Lou

It would need spacers or adapters. To run spacers, you will probably need long ARP wheel studs. This isn't a big deal, and it is safe as long you make sure you have adequate threads to engage the lug nuts..

I got no problem with adapters. I had them on on 87 when i ran 92 Sawblades and my current C5 has C6 wheels on it so adapters were used in the rear. As long as they are properly torqued they are just fine. Ok so now i have to do some research and math to figure out the mm width of adapters for the front and rear...........unless you would happen to know.
Thanks, Lou

Here's what I know: the 9.5" wheels for the 84-87 C4s came from the factory with 38mm offset, and the 9.5" wheels for the later C4s had 56mm offset. So based on that, it appears that wheels for the early C4s need 18mm less offset than for the later cars. Is your set of Z06 wheels two fronts and two rears, or is it all rear wheels? I think the fronts fit on the front of a later C4 just fine, and I know lots of people run four rear wheels on C4s without spacers. So it appears that you could us an 18-20mm (or 3/4") spacer on each wheel and be in good shape for an 84 C4.

Lou, those would bolt right on a later C4. The would sit a bit far toward the inside on yours. They probably clear everything on the inside (but I'm not sure - you'd have to try it), but would look better with a 3/4" spacer to push them toward the outside. 1" spacers or adapters are probably easier to get, and probably would still work, but they will push the wheels even a bit further outside and you may run into a bit of poke outside the fenders.

Here's a link to my experience going from C5 to C4 Wheels. Cliffnotes are C4 not designed for C5 wheels/tires and I would not recommend doing it. Just my opinion but I do have the t shirt. Thread starts out slow but discussion of adapters and pics are there. The wheels I have are the thin spoke. Again jmho not a bash. Mr. Miller has a lot to say in this thread too. He is a wealth of btdt information.

This is a handy calculator that I used when I went to newer wheels.

I had them on my 84 for awhile. I took them off and went back to the original due to the hard ride. I did love the looks with the C5 thin spoke wheels. I used adapters on both front and rear. The person who I purchased the wheels from did have them on a 87 without any adapter or spacers.

you are absolutely right.

I have an 88 coupe with an 87 front cradle, so wide track in the rear, narrow in front.

I run C5Z06 wheels.

18x10.5 with 315/30r18 tires with NO spacer on the REAR with the WIDE track.

17x9.5 with 275/40r17 tires with 20mm spacers and long ARP studs on the FRONT with the NARROW track.

hope this helps.
