Drove my 1990 vette L98 yesterday running good. On the way home, starting from a stop car started to surge and no acceleration when giving it gas. Stalled a few times hard starting but was able to start it after a few tries. Couldn't get it to go over 15-20 mph. Tried to inch my way home but finally needed a tow. Changed the IAC today, no different. Changed fuel pump last November.
As an aside when driving the car around after about 20 min to 1/2 hr, service eng soon light comes on. Scanned for codes and the only one that comes up is 44, O2 sensor, lean exhaust. Would this be connected to my current problem?
You most likely have a fuel pressure issue. Your drivability and Lean code tell me that your engine is starved.
You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail. You will need about 40ish at idle. Since you just changed out the fuel pump, I'd first look at your filter then the Fuel Pressure regulator if you do get your 40 pounds.
I would like to add that a bad O2 sensor would produce results very similar to what you described. If your O2 sensor is more than 50,000 miles old then replace it. I would certainly disconnect it and verify that it is producing the right voltage range for your car. O2's go bad regularly and should be changed every 50k miles. O2 sensors fail frequently during maintenance because they get poisoned easily by things like coolant or oil getting on them. Take a look just to be sure it is working.
I hope that it is a "simple fix" that brings your Corvette back out onto the streets, good luck!
