This topic has been talked about several times but I would like to get some more answers. Basically I am considering replacing the stock clutch in my 94' LT1. Ecklers has several clutches to choose from 1.) Part Number 31358 LT1 & LT4 Centerforce II dual friction ($619.00) or Part Number 36857 LT1 & LT4 GT Power Matched 11" Clutch Set.
My Basic question is.. are any of these what I want? My car is bone stock and I just want to have the same performance as when it was new. I have read about the single mass and dual mass etc... But has anyone had experience with any of these particular models, or maybe point me to a model that would be equivilent to when it came from the factory, other than GM...
the only problem with the F-body disc is balancing, i'm not really sure how that would work on a basic L98, i love my F-body disc and ram clutch which is basically just a factory valeo setup, vette plate and camaro disc, it works wonderful and is actually easier to drive than before. it's just the balancing issues i wonder about.
Thanks Guys,
I think I am even more confused now, I was hoping to get into a new clutch for under 500.00 bucks. I was wanting to put the Borla exhaust, new clutch, new opti and new fuel injectors in this winter. Looks like I will have to do alot more research on the clutch.
You don't need to go with a centerforce dual friction on a stock car. Stock style or lowend aftermarket will do just fine unless you are really beating it. As far as which to choose is hard for me to say because I'm running the 4+3, but the parts should be well under $500. Labor will likely run $300-$750 depending on the place, in my experience.
I'm fairly certain I can get a Centerforce dual friction for my setup for something like $350. If scorp sees this post he can tell you where he located his last clutch and maybe they'll have decent prices on setups for yours as well. I would think you could get a better price somewhere else, but MAD is selling a LUK setup with throwout bearing and allignment tool for $399. Someone will get you a good link here soon.
My Centerforce D/F clutch was I think $320 + $35 for the Throwout bearing. I bought it from Jegs. Luckily the 4+3 single mass flywheel (which is a factory lightweight flywheel @ ~16lbs) can be resurfaced for about $30. :)
I just got a price for the DM flywheel, disc, PP, throwout bearing, & pilot bushing for $1,037.75 + $30.00 shipping from gmparts@samtaylor.com. I have tried quite a few different places for pricing, but this is the best I have found. The flywheel because of it's setup, is what makes all the noise when it goes bad. Mine is bad enough that I thought I had a rod knock. It is the dual mass flywheel. You cannot have them rebuilt or have them machined. If you go to the single mass setup, beware of the noise in neutral with the clutch out. It sounds like rocks in a can. You may also experience the noise in 1st at low speeds. You may want to go to bill@zfdoc.com to read about the facts of the zf 6speed & why they used the DM flywheel setup.
