While replacing the RH door window weather seal I powered the window closed and now it won't go down. There is power to the door switch and when I meter the brown and blue wires leading to the motor there is continuity. Wirings not my strong point so if I want to test the motor with a separate battery do I put the + and - to these two wires or - to ground and + to one of these wires? Just want to be sure before I make smoke come out of anything!
FWIW LH window is working normally and the RH window will not work from the LH control either.
This is a +.- situation. The motor needs power to run while sensors need a ground to measure resistance.
Are you sure you just dont have an obstruction or something preventing the window from moving? I find it odd that it was working until you took the panel apart. Maybe you jsut jimmied something tight or loose?
Ok, will use a battery to power the tan and blue feed directly to the motor and see what happens. I suspect that lack of use may be the problem? Motor commutator dirty maybe? Anyway, I will persist and see if I can find anything before I have to pull the motor out. I see it is recommended to replace the whole mechanism, this will be an "ouch" moment here given current exchange rate and freight.
This car is a recent import here, former California car that must've sat a lot because the tires were date stamped 2001 but had very little tread wear. Needless to say I replaced these as a precaution (the sidewalls were starting to crack).

Powered the motor directly and it works perfectly, if you open the window with a direct connection to the motor and then connect the switch again you can close the window but not open it. So seems I need a new RH window switch? But why won't the LH switch operate the RH window?
Try to measure the switch connections and see if they close like they should. It's been a while since I had mine apart, but I had a loose wire that would let me open the window, but not close it. I don't remember how it's wired on the corvette, but I have a mustang that when the passenger switch is disconnected the drivers door can't open the passenger window. Much cheaper to connect a wire or change a switch than the motor/assembly.
I know its not the motor, it works fine when tested with a battery connected directly to it. The RH switch is hard to come by so wondering if anyone knows how to open one up without destroying it?
I see one of the vendors has it but at around $90 (thats $134 plus freight here) I figured it would be worth seeing if a clean up of the contacts would keep it going for a while longer.
