94 corvette, I started getting a SYS light flashing on the digital display a few days ago. Some days it will do it and others it won't. It flashes a couple of times then goes off for awhile then flashes a couple of more times. I do know at one time I had the stereo out (year ago) and when I reinstalled it I got this light. So I pulled the unit again to check on any wires, replaced and never got the light again until now. Does this mean the car has set some code? and if so what kind of scanner do I need to purchase to see what is triggering it.
If the stereo got fixed up the right way, then it is telling you your battery is going to need to be replaced soon. The more often you see it, the more you need to replace the battery.
If it is your radio, and you have installed the resistors into the radio circuit, then maybe they are shorting out? If you haven't installed the resistors into the radio circuit (as described in the tips section i believe), then you need to do that and it will get rid of the SYS light.
Couldnt find the tech tip on this, but it is probably something to do with my stereo, I have the original Bose unit and the speed control does not work anymore along with the cd player, So it may be time for a repair on this.
Has anyone tried to get the parts to repair the Bose CD player themselves, I took it all apart and looked inside but I had no idea what might have been the culprit. I am always looking to save a buck... guess I shouldnt have bought a vette...
nah, i do everything I can myself as well.... saves a poopieLOAD of $ if you do your own work. There's no way I could afford a vette if I didn't do my own work.. i'm in COLLEGE
Eckler's new catalog is offering rebuilt factory BOSE units. But check your ECM and CCM codes first, SYS just means that there is an unexpected condition somewhere in the electrical gadgetry. Doesn't have to mean the battery is dying.
ALDL, car off, jumper A to B ('84 to '93 cars), turn key to run, do not start, count flashes and pauses for ECM codes.
On '84 to '93 cars, jumper A to G and turn key to run, do not start, and record all the codes it gives you, with the modules, on the LCD display.
1. H 23
4. C 32
7. H 74
The only thing I would add to his discription for the 94, is that you can manually page through the codes using the display control keys to the right of the instrument panel. Bottom 2 keys go up and down through the modules, middle 2 go up and down through the module segments, top 2 go through the individual fault codes.
I posted the resistor tech tip a long time ago and keep cutting and pasting it in.... I guess I need to add it to the regular tech tips section! Here you go:

If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new stereo, he will need to do the following:
1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 Watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2-pack for 29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car.)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

obviously this applies to a non-stock stereo install. The dimmer circuit is what is throwing the code. I have also heard that this tip only applies if you have C68 Auto Climate Control. Manual a/c controlled cars may not have this problem.
couldn't a loose prom do something similar? right now i have a ed wright piggy back on my chip & sometimes i get that & a SES light that kills the speedo & turns the fans on, can't pull codes or anything, if i tap on the ECU for a minute it usually goes away. very annoying !! & it's going back to ed for a burn on the stock chip soon
