I don't know if it has to do with the cold weather or not, but I cannot hook up for crap on the street anymore. I used to not be able to spin the tires. Can removing the spare/jack make your car spin more because of the lost weight in the rear? I recently added an exhaust system which would give some weight back to the rear part of the car. Does anyone have a brand of tires that HOOK in 30 degree weather? or know what I can do to solve this problem. I can't even race my friends anymore due to this. Thanks!
Last night at the strip on GY Eagles she was pulling 1.83sec short times, till the last pass when the temp dropped to near 40deg and the tires went up in smoke on launch.
I've had to learn to roll-out to launch on the street, especially in cold weather with low coolant temps. You'll find a substantial HP and torque increase under these conditions plus traction degrades too.
Check your tire pressure and learn to roll into the throttle; it takes time & practice but works. MY Eagles hook well on street or strip but are no longer available.
There is not a tire out there that will dead hook a performance car on 30 degree street pavement. Cold tires on cold pavement are a deadly mix, I have had a pretty good scare when it was cold out last February and nearly put my car into the curb coming out of my office parking lot. The best options out there for street performance tires are AVS Sports or Michellin Pilots. Both will still spin on the back of a car with some horsepower, especially on cold pavement or ashfalt.
Thanks for the reply's guys! So you think when it gets warmer out I will start to HOOK on the street again? I would goto the Cartek Challenge, but I have a dana 36 and don't want to break my rear end considering I live in Connecticut and wouldn't be able to drive back.
Get a set of American Racer tires, they're produced by McCreary Enterprises. They'll hook just as hard on the street as they will at the track (although with 30º temps and even colder pavement..they'll probably require a NICE burnout)

I'm in the same boat, but As logn as you don't put Drags on your car you 'should' be ok.. Get some grippy tires for your car and learn hwo the best to launch w/o wheelspin. On Firehawk SZ50 255x50ZR16's I got 1.8's in the 60'. Best gripping street tire I've seen yet. (Although on the street they go up in smoke easy) :D
