Default Oil pressure problems.............can someone help?

This is on my '94 LT1. Keep in mind that this only happens after the car has warmed up. While sitting and idling there are no problems. While driving at a sustained speed, there are no problems. However, as I am coming to a stop and push in the clutch, apply the brakes, and the rpms drop, then the oil pressure will drop to the normal 25-30 psi, but just as I am almost to a complete stop the pressure will continue to drop to zero and the "Check Gauges" light will come on. I can then rev the motor and everything is back to normal. Oddly enough, it doesn't do it everytime either. The oil pressure sending switch was leaking, but I replaced it and it didn't help. Could my oil pump be going? Is there anything else that could contribute to this? There are no rods knocking or any valve clatter. I am going to hook up another oil pressure gauge over the weekend to rule out some possibilities. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this before? Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

I'm almost sure it is a problem with the monitoring sys.

Mine is over 30 psi after warm up.....Your car would shut down if you had a real oil pressure problem...just my thoughts....

Check all conections.....

I never had this happen to me but to be sure you could hook up a mechanical oil pressure gage to check pressures. good luck.....

45-60psi at cruise and half of that at idle is normal, if you already replaced the switch, replace the pump

If it goes out on you, you could be buying a new motor, better be safe than sorry.

Ditto to above-2 press. sensors-if the one for the ecm sees <5psi it will turn off fuel to inj. and it would stall out on you....

Hmm, check gauges light is around 4 or 5 pounds, pretty low.

I'm with the verify group. Get another analog gauge, install, go test drive. I would make sure the pressure is not dropping that low. Should this be the case, something is not right.

With regards to the fuel pressure drop and loss of fuel to the injectors, I would consult the service manual and the schematics for a Code 54. The service manual for my 90, Code 54, shows the electrical power from the oil pressure switch to the fuel pump being in parallel with the fuel pump relay. This feature may be different on other years but don't think so. If the fuel pump relay fails, then the 4 or 5 psi oil pressure switch will power the fuel pump, hence the redundant power feature. It is not in series with the fuel pump relay, at least on the 90.
