Default 1/4 help!!!

I am thinking about 1/4 race
I have 1988 vette automatic with 2.59 rear.
My mods are: open air lid, k&n filter, mod Mas Air Sensor, TB by pass, ported plenum, AFPR, no EGR, No AIR, open exhaust, B&M shift Improver kit. What do you think time and speed I could get for 1/4 mile?
Any tips for drag run, how tire pressure (no slick, just stock 275/40/17)
How best start with automatic, use brake torque, or not, leave in OD or manually start from first?
Thanks for all answers
Jerry, Poland
BTW I have my vette site, please visit (text is polish, but there is a lot of photos) http://www.corvette.kraksystem.pl

You have to experiment with launch technique yourself. Some people take it up to 1000rpm at launch and let off the brake at the last yellow, some launch at 1700-2000, it just takes practice to get the best 60' time.

Id lower the tire pressure several psi in the rear, dont know about front though.

Leave it in D and go, dont shift it.

You should ask in the drag racing section.

Your car is capable of upper 13s bone stock.

Pump up the air pressure in the front tires...or use a thinner front tire....like moroso tires....

I did this in the middle '60's worked then ...will work now....

GO for it..

FYI

No need to do this unless you a looking to get every little bit out of your run. First you should just go to the track and run a few TT and get used to the fact that you are on a dragstrip and people are watching you! Staging is tricky, as well as launching and finding the correct tire pressures and shift points. First I'd suggest AVOID THE WET BURNBOX! No need to put water on your tires. Do a small dry burnout, and then stage. If your car hooks hard, the more you can stall the better. What I mean is if you can put on the brakes and gas it so the rpm come up as high as possible without moving the car and then launch without spinning your tires, that is better than leaving at a lower rpm. Again this is different on every car, so you need to practice! Don't worry about your reaction time until you are comfortable with staging, launching, and driving your car down the track. The clock starts when you move out of the beams, so concentrate on things like staging and launching. For the first few times, until you are comfortable, leave the car in drive(not overdrive) and let it shift itself. But most of all, HAVE FUN! :D Once you get used to doing your burn out, staging, launching, and driving down the track, then you can start playing with the tire psi., shifting manually, shallow/deep staging, burning down the other guy....OOOPS that slipped  Have no fear, got to the strip and tear it up! HAVE FUN. By the way, if you run in the 12's, don't post it here, just say you ran low 13's!!! That might be a little safer!

I would recommend attending a track event just to observe before you actually run. I did this and witnessed all the do's and don'ts before I made 1 pass. If you hear of a track rental going on, see if you can get in on it. Track rentals are great for first timers.

dont worry about spending big $ on you car
Practice your technique.

avoid the water at all cost....if you HAVE to go thru the water, you HAVE to burn your tires dry.

Avoiding the water, and using street tires, dont do long burn outs. Just a very short burnout to "clean" the tires.

As far as launching, make TWO runs. The 1st, powerbrake as far as it will let you. The 2nd, powerbrake just enough to take the slack out of the drive train.

My bet is, this time of year with cooler track temps, the 2nd method will get you better 60' times.

rear tire pressure to 26psI to start.
I wouldnt go lower that 22 with stock rubber, and think 24-28 is the range you want to work in.

leave the tranny in D.... not Over drive, and DONT shift gears youself.

Leave when the last yellow is ON... do NOT wait to see the green!

DONT worry about the other guy at all.
Concentrate on what YOU do, and pretend NO-ONE else is around.

Believe me.. if you mess up, no one else cares..
