Default 1986 Clutch question?

I have a 1986 Z51 with a 4 speed manual. A couple months ago when I was driving at highway speed and tried to pass, the rpm's revved and felt a slip and smelt a "bad smell". I have changed the 4+3 filter, oil, and tranny gear oil. When I put it in first, I let out the clutch and it barely starts moving, it does eventually come up to speed and can run through all 4 gears as long as I take it easy. Question is, before I take it to a shop, what might I expect as a problem/solution?

I think you answered your own question: A failed clutch. Usually pretty simple.

The only real aggravating factors might be an oil leak which caused the failure, but it doesn't happen a lot.

whether you are doing the job yourself or taking it to a shop replacing the rear main seal is a good idea as the flywheel can be easily removed for access at that point.

I've had a couple clutches through their lifespan and what you described sounds very similar to the last breath of both.

New clutch and pressure plate. Trans shop should check flywheel...may need resurface. But don't get too ****. I generally let the flywheel go inless TERRIBLE.

This literally just happened to me. Needed everything in the clutch assembly. 1600 later and I now have a running car with a soft clutch.
