89 6 spd got the black tag, the best one imo. Cant break those things if you tried!
The earlier ones could be had with the 4+3. Basically a 4 spd trans with a doug nash OD
Only other option was the 4 spd 700r automatic.

89 has a ZF 6 speed transmission and the automatic is a 4 speed 700r4
Earlier manuals were a Doug Nash 4-speed with a 3 speed overdrive attached.
