Default edelbrock intake opinion?

i was looking through my old summit catolog and was wonder how good this setup would be.

incase of red x the link is http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=26893

i know it's not the MR or the SR. but i wanted to see if there are other options out there. something that would fit under a stock hood.
oh i the part# for the 89-92 is 3891, but they are on back order and no pic so i posted the 85-88.

Edelbrock is a good aftermarket company, but there is better. For a stock motor changing to a big mouth(TPIS) or accel base will net you more flow for your $. Starting with Edelbrock, then SLP, then accel, and finall TPiS best runners.

Or you could be stuck like the rest of us and try to figure out if a MR or SR would be better.

Vic'89 picked up 15hp or so from his Accel base and AS&M LT runners.

I would expect similar results from that setup, depending on your mods.

the accel or TPIS base are much better, i've seen both. runner wise the SLPs are the worst but you can open them up if you spend some time porting them, as&m makes the best runners but they are pricey. just start with the accel base for $375 and keep your eyes peeled for TPIS or as&m runners, both are extruded and will flow great out of the box. accel, tpis and edelbrock are cast & must be port finished to flow anywhere near the previous. it's more time, it's porting material and if i were doing it i'd go with as&m or TPIS.

No i didn'y buy it, i was just wonder if it was any good. the intake and runners sell for $680 and the runners alone for $320.
it should be easy to install.
i know enough about maintenace on the vette but i'm a newbie when it comes to mods. i was just trying to find the best set up that fits under a stock hood.
where can i find as&m intake?

Out of the box the Accell/LPE base is better. The Edlebrock has more meat around the ports which allow you use it on either ported stock heads or a large runner head like an AFR. If you try to matchup a 1205 intake gasket on an Accell, it may not seal. Typically guys have to add some weld above the ports, then re-machine the sealing surface. You can just port the Edlebrock intake. BTW, the TPIS/ASM runners are fabricated from aluminum tubing and plate vs. the cast runners, which IME are all pretty crummy quality and require a LOT of grinding and port match work. You can probably open up the cast ones to flow more than the fabricated set, but you really need to have a them flowed to make sure that they are even.

You can order the AS&M LT runners directly from Arizone Speed & Marine.

The set I bought when in Chandler, AZ early this year (and later sold to Vic'89) were $400 plus shipping. They definitely are fine quality and worth the extra $$.

On the home page of this forum or the sidebar of the screen, click on Product reviews. There Is or used to be a review about the edelbrock TPI intake manifold. It didnt get a very good review.I read it last year or so and havent checked back in there for some time.
Just thought id pass that along.

As with the other guys, the best gains and fit Ive read were the acell base and ASM runners.Worst was edelbrock and SLP runners.
Good Luck in your decisions.
