Jeez that looks too nice too put on the car! :) Anyways where did you have the super ram polished or did you do it yourself? What kind of springs and valves are you putting in there? Your car is going to fly by the spring!

I spent a whole weekend polishing, it was hard but worth the effort.................................. ........................Nah, I bought it that way!!!
Someone else had it professionally polished. Those are double springs with hardened retainers good up to .610 lift.

It will fly much earlier than spring, Im in Miami, and I hope to start and finish the project within the next 3 weeks.

Then it will really fly with the cooler air (65-70 degrees??) thats the extent of our winter!!!

I call it winter project because I want to fit in with you guys!!!!

Kind of wish you wouldn't have fixed the link - now I'm envious! Great looking stable of new parts bet the pony you're putting all that in will really feel different after all the wrenching is done. Good luck and keep us informed of the progress - especially the performance increase after it's all together.

Allright- my last day of work was Thurs.
I took the weekend off, and today was the big day!!!
I started at 3:30 this afternoon (I guess I took the morning off too!!)

So far-

1. Removed entire TPI
2. Moved AC
3. Removed Valve covers, distributor, and fuel rail
4. All belts, hoses, etc.

Im down to the manifold....

I have never delved this deep into any mechanical project before, so Im kinda crappin my pants, but hey, fear not!

I am amazed how much of this stuff came off so easily, I have yet to break anything, and I always break or lose a part on all my projects, requiring a mechanic or the forum to bail me out!!!

All the reading and studying from the forum really helps, as all the parts seem familiar, and the steps not so foreign. As I said, this is my first real mechanical venture, I was just a backyard mechanic wannabee until now. I would do oil changes, tune-ups, spark plugs, shocks, brakes, little hop-ups and stuff, but this........never before! I see my rocker arms and I am like whoa, cool stuff!!!

I am off to the auto parts to get a real torx socket head for the manifold, those are on tight and I am afraid to strip the bolt or crack the tiny socket.

There is a bunch of junk (weeds, dirt, oil, etc on the manifold. Should I dry-vac it up or something before I remove the manifold?

My wife is gonna freak when she gets home!!!!

I want to have the heads off before kickoff tonight- GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I will update post as I go, please stay alert for any emergencies- and help bail me out!!!

Thanks guys,onn

Gus, its best to keep everything as clean as possible. :yesnod: I would vaccum off the loose stuff and then yank the mainfold. You might need a rubber mallet to persuade it off. My stock one was an s.o.b. to get off. :)

Kinda stuck.....

The header bolts almost did me in....got em all out though. The manifold, rocker arms, pushrods, sparkplugs are all out. Now I need to jack up the car real high to completely remove the headers...what a pain in the butt.
I gave up till tomorrow.

IM TIRED!!!!

Heads are off- I am almost tempted to take out the block and go through with the stroker- but money is not in the supply it was last week!

I am getting pretty worried, never had the car this far apart before- may never see it run again!

Questions so far:

1. The crud that falls into the cylinders, how do we get it out?
2. How much damage can it do if it all doesnt come out?
3. Do you guys think the cam will be easier if I take out the block or the radiator? Remember, this is a 91, that shroud is in tight.
4. It all looks remarkably clean and new for 120K miles......wonder if someones been in there before.....Ive had it since 90K

Heres the latest pics- tomorrow its off to the machine shop.

Nice work so far Gus!!! See it isn't so bad. :)

1. The crud that falls into the cylinders, how do we get it out?
Compressed air. Then wipe the cylinders down with WD-40 on a rag. Then wipe them down with motor oil on a rag.

2. How much damage can it do if it all doesnt come out?
Soft gunk will get blown out, but do not do not do not leave anything hard. Do your best to get as much out as you can. You don't want to be like me right now and wondering what happened. ;)

3. Do you guys think the cam will be easier if I take out the block or the radiator? Remember, this is a 91, that shroud is in tight.
Radiator is easier to yank. You might find that you have to unbolt 1 engine mount and 'tilt' the engine to get the cam to clear a cross member.

4. It all looks remarkably clean and new for 120K miles......wonder if someones been in there before.....Ive had it since 90K
Looks good. Mine was pretty clean at 166k too. Just shows that the previous owners took care of them. :) Try to soak up as much of that fluid in the lifter valley as you can and then clean the area with some brake cleaner before you remove the lifters. You do not want to get any antifreeze on the bearings down below.
