I've owned this 1990 about 6 weeks now. When I first bought it, the clutch fully disengaged real high. Then, about a week ago I fixed the INFL REST lite on the dash and in so doing I "reset" the computer. When I took if for a drive after that, suddenly it had almost no clutch. I disengaged about an inch off the floor. But, I drove it around some and it seemed to adjust and was fine after about 20 miles. I actually drove it to work and back two days this week and it was fine. Then, due to inclement weather, I let it sit for about 4 days. I just got in it to drive it today and there's basically NO CLUTCH. When I press the clutch and try to put it in gear, it never fully disengages. As I'm trying to push it into 1st, the car starts moving. I have to physically cram it in gear, then it won't disengage when I push the clutch in. I was able to get it back in the garage. What the heck is going on? What do I need to do?
It just seemed real coincidental that this happened immediately after I reset the computer for the INFL REST lite. Does the computer "automatically" adjust the clutch somehow? If so, I'm guessing that has something to do with it.
If it is a slave cylinder, is that something I can do in my garage with basic tools? I guess I need to buy a service manual.
yes you can replace the slave cylinder in your garage. But you will need tp jack the car up and have someone help pump the clutch while you are under neat the car to bleed the clutch.
You have a leaking slave cylinder. yes you can replace the slave cylinder in your garage. But you will need tp jack the car up and have someone help pump the clutch while you are under neat the car to bleed it.
look under the computer on the drivers side engine compartment for the fluid fill. the computer is a black box next to the windshield with a bunch of wires going into it. it's held in with three nuts, one in the front and one on either side. there's a translucent fill neck with a black cap. i bet if you look i there, it will be empty.
If there is no fluid, make sure the clutch master cylinder is not leaking INSIDE the car. Mine let go after replacing the clutch, and leaked into the car, down along the firewall. What a mess.
