Default WTF!!?!? Cylinder Selection Error!!!!

Ok who knows what this error code 41 actual means and where to go from it. This is the latest in mishaps with my car at the moment. Dropping cylinder #4 (maybe more too, didn't check), getting 10mpg on the highway, blowing rediculously rich fuel clouds behind me, car will NOT start withing applying extra throttle, car will not idle (it dies).

Ok so what changed between running ok and this? Nothing! Well an MSD coil and low reisistance brush, but that is it. I put the GM coil back on and it is the same. I tried the stock chip, same, craig marcho chip, same, my own chips, same.............. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

This car refuses to race, tomorrow is the biggest race of the year I was waiting for.

*edit*

Oh wonderful, I just put a new ECM in the car. Maybe I got a crap unit. The Memcal I'm using is one that I have been using right along!

Also got these 2 at a couple points tonight..

Course of action for the morning is as follows immediately.

1. Replace Plugs (possibly fouled a couple by now if you saw the fuel clouds)
2. Replace cap & rotor (because they are cheap anyways)

It is pretty clear from the diagnostic diagram that you have a memory chip that is defective or the incorrect chip and it should be replaced. I don't know what repair manual you are using, but my 87 GM service manual goes further than your diagram when code 41 is set (yes). I can't post that page, but it says: Ign off, disconnect ECM connectors, probe terminal D3, D1, D10, A12 with a test light (low power 12 v lamp) connected to 12v.

Light on: Faulty connections or MEM-CAL, or incorrect MEM-CAL installed in ECM.

Light off: Repair open ground ckt 450

I have used the stock 1987 Chip, a chip from Craig Marcho, and about 5 of my own that I burned last night.

The computer recognizes the changes (for example in Diacom I can see the desired Idle speeds I set changing).

Where in the 87 manual are you finding this procedure? Flipping through mine now.

It's about in the middle of the 1987 Service Manual on page 6E3-A-49.
It is the code 41 logic flow diagram for repairing a code 41. You might have an open ground at ckt 450.

Found it, thanks! Looks like me and a test light are going to go check D3, D1, D10, A10 for grounds.
