Default L98 oil pressure sensor

Is it possible to remove the entire oil pressure sensor assembly down to the china wall from an L98 with the plenum/runners removed but intake base still installed?

Also, does the oil pressure sensor use a special socket? The socket I use on the LS6 isn't deep enough.

thanks!

Yes, there is enough clearance to remove the oil pressure fitting. The socket? It didn't quite engage the nut. i trimmed a little of the top of the sensor to get it to fit.

it's been a few years, but as I recall. you can remove and replace the sensor without removing anything - just need to get a few things out of the way. it's tight, but doable, and a bit of a PITA. . I did it on my (first) 90, and the only specialty tool I needed was a 27mm (or 29mm) service wrench.

I installed a new oil pressure sensor on my 89 L98 this past summer. I moved a few vacuum lines and plug wires and got to it using one of these:

For those of you who don't know what that strange looking tool is. It is a "Telescoping Basin Wrench" available at most Home Depots and Lowes stores.

It is a common tool that Plumbers use as it can tighten fasteners up underneath the sink. I have one in my plumbing tool box as they are very handy at times.

As our creative friend Izzy Dizzy showed us this tool can even help Corvette owners working in tight spaces.

Great Suggestion and Thank You Very Much Izzy Dizzy!

Glad to help out.
Here's the GM Part I used: It looks a little different than the original but it's the GM direct replacement. Works as it should!

I just replaced my oil pressure sensor switch, the one-wire sensor. I purchased a socket specifically for this off of Amazon along with the OEM AC Delco switch, for under $6... see
here here
.

This socket has a 3/8" driver hole in the top, along with a 1 1/8" hex 'nut' at the top (so you can use a socket, as well). I like this, because my oil pressure sensor switch is almost vertical (points slightly to the driver's side of the vehicle) but the oil pressure sendor (the other sensor mounted to the 'manifold' on the top rear of the engine) is horizontal... you could use a crescent wrench if you couldn't get a driver down there.

If you have an oil leak, it seems that the bad sensor will have plenty of oil in the connector. So, a quick check should be to pop the connectors off and look at the end of the sensor... if it's full of oil then that's your issue.
