After the turn, the blinker won't shut off until I do it manually. It has been this way since I bought the car, but I am finally getting down to addressing the Nitty-gritty and I figured I would ask what causes this and what to do to fix it? Suggestions?
now, I think I read something here about a trick, hopefully that is a true memory and not some vapor thats flouting around in my head, that speeds up the repair...
That happened to mine too. Actually, it only reset when you signaled right, the left signal wouldn't reset. Long story short, part of the internal bracket broke off of the switch. I had to replace the entire switch assembly, which was $140 at the dealer plus special tools.
If you have the same problem I had, you need to pull the air bag and wheel to get to the part. The real PITA is snaking the signal harness down through the steering column to its connector block.
I just did mine this weekend. Not very difficult. You need two specialized tools(pep boys roughtly $20 ea). A lock Plate compressor/removal tool and a steering wheel puller. THe removal is pretty straight forward. The turn signal assembly is about $30.
90 red coupe, It's REALLY not hard to do........if you don't have an airbag. You only need a wheel puller and a lock plate depressor. The wheel comes right off with the puller .......the you depress the lockplate with that tool and remove the little snap ring (I use a pick to get the snap ring off). Once the lock plate is off the switch is right there....... go for it!!!! We'll help ya if ya need it!!! :seeya
