Default Help please

I have a 1987 corvette with z51 package and I recently toasted a new motor due to a water temp sending unit coming apart and not allowing the cooling fans to come on and I wasn't aware of it until my oil temp gauge went up to 320 degrees but by then it was too late, warped aluminum heads motor full of water, shot. Just had a later model corvette engine installed with 60-80,000 miles on it and it runs like a dream, fast, quiet, no smoke or any problems that I can see. My problem is with the oil temp gauge on the instrument cluster, it is stuck on 320 and when I move the selector switch to oil pressure it will stay on it for a couple of seconds and then go back to the oil temp which is stuck on 320, which of course it is not that hot, it does this even on cold starts. The corvette mechanic that did the engine swap said he changed the front and rear temperature sensor's but it is still stuck, he thinks it is the gauge cluster that is bad. Has anybody out there ran into this problem and could it be something other than the gauge cluster as everything else works fine. These gauge clusters aren't cheap. Thank You

If I am not mistaken, the oil temp sensor is the one over the oil filter, on the lower, left side of the engine.

Can you look and see if he has changed that one?

I'll do that first thing when I get a chance. I can't have it done today as the wind is really blowing and because I'm partially dis-abled I am in a lot of pain but as I can I will get it checked out and let you know. Thank You for the quick reply

Doubt it’s the cluster, I assume it worked before the overheating,I would check to see if the wire is pinched where the engine and trans meet when they replaced the motor or if the overheat caused the insulation to melt grounding the wire.
good luck

It is the one over the oil filter and it will go to 320F if it's not connected.
