Default Belt tensioner malfunction

I have a C4, but I am installing new belts on my non-corvette (gasp!!) but I would think that the earlier corvettes had the same apparatus. This is the tensioner where it is screwed in to loosen and out to tighten. But mine does not work, I screw it all the way out and all that happens is the bolt comes out, no increase of tension. What can I do about this?

woodcrest - the C4 tensioners are spring loaded apparatus that have I think 1/2 inch standard ratchet socket hole to loosen. The only trouble I have had with them is remembering to take out the ratchet wrench and driving around with it on there ... oops.

A picture might help some.

And/or a link or part number for the tensioner you're working with, at a parts site.

ok if it's anything like my frontier if the mounting bolts the thru shaft and the one on the tensioner adjuster bolt and one on the back of Alternator are not loose Nothing will move.

Each adjuster has a lock Bolt on the Slide, the Main adjuster/Idler pulley that bolt that holds the idler pulley on is the lock.
