I know the owner's manual says NO, but I see Mid America is offering a trailer hitch for Vettes.
The Question is: is GM saying NO just to cover their butt? or
can you actually use one if you drive carefully?
My thought is I realize how good a Vette handles, and no trailer is going to react the same way, but if you're not doing 120mph and take corners like you were driving with Grandma in the car, it would be safe.
I had a Mustang GT with a trailer and never had a problem.
I don't plan on hauling a lot of weight, just a Harley or two.
Feedback please, Jim
I'd like to use one too but I think the deal is the composite spring. They say to not carry more than 100 pounds of luggage too. I would like to use air shocks when I finally do it but I want everything removeable so I can only use the hitch and shocks to haul a Harley myself....... I didn't see the one in MAD's cat...... :seeya
The Resse Shadowmount hitch for the vette is rated for 3500 lbs. I believe. The only issue is really making sure that it's installed correctly, the trailer is properly balanced, and you are religious about making sure that the bolts are tight - the hitch attaches to the aluminum rear subframe and I imagine that a loose bolt could quickly cause damage and tearing.
I pull a 4x6 steel trailer for my race tires. Total weight on it is probaby in the 500lb. range (guess) and it tows just fine. Can't even tell it's there really - yes, it's seen triple-digit speeds for very short durations. http://www.tubas.net/vette/trailer/index.html
I have a hitch on my 87. I have towed trailer with 3 dirtbikes on it before, cruising at ~100mph and never had a problem with it. Also towed a trailer with race tires without a problem.
Goodluck, and get a hidden one, I got the toungue that sticks out, doesnt bother me, but I know the others are more favorable.

something just isn't right about a trailer hitch on a vette, unless your going to a vette do and your towing one of those trailers made from another vette. then i would consider that ok, but not for hauling trash to the dump
I think it's a matter of tongue weight on the suspension more than anything. Tires and light loads with little or no tongue weight shouldn't be a problem. I certainly wouldn't be pulling a boat with a Vette. :nonod:
You are absolutly correct about tong weight. Many, Many, people autocross
and/or drive track events with a small utility trailor to carry their track
tires and basic tool kit . This is light duty stuff. Distribute the load over the
utility trailor axle to where it tows stable but down not cause your Vett
to sag in the rear. It's not cool to haul the garbage to the dump or your
lawnmower, but it's cool to haul a set of Hoosiers around! Keep highway
speeds resonable as the small diamater utility trailor wheels will be turning
a bit higher RPM's.
