Default Replacing Catalytic Converter

Hey C4 and other C's Vette Family. I have a 1995 LT1 corvette and I am having to change my Catalytic Converters so that I can pass smog. Another reason I have to change my Cats is because my car is ideling and shuts off if I am at a stop light or sign. Then when I wait about 1 hour she turns back on again for about 20 minutes before shutting down again.

My question is, what is the best company to go with when getting a Legal "California" Catalytic Converter? It has to be specific to California's huge smog regulations.

Thanks all for your answers

Eastern Catalytic makes CARB compliant cats. Price isn't that bad on them either(as far as CARB compliant cats go anyways), around $240 a pop. Those are the only ones I know of, besides used ones off of ebay.

I recently had a MagnaFlow cat installed on mine. They have a good reputation, but be sure the shop installs the correct inlet and outlet diameters. No universal cats! The C.A.R.B. list that shows approved cat part numbers has some cats with smaller diameter pipes that are approved for my '84!!! NOT GOOD!!!

Thanks guys for the response. I am going to go look up both those brands now. I will make sure to bring my red Service Manual books to the muffler shop so that they know exactly how to uninstall and install the right diameters. How can I tell which Cats are non universal?

Where can i find this C.A.R.B list at?

Are you talking about the pre-cats or just the big cat under the car? I replaced mine with a High Flowing unit from Summit Racing and I am pretty sure it was legal in California. I changed my catalytic out when I installed a Cat back exhaust system on my C4. The difference of power was close to a 14 hp gain with the high flow cat and the new Chambered exhaust system. The High flow Catalytic converter was probably responsible for a good part of the power increase and the exhaust sound is still awesome and LEGAL.

Here in Virginia we don't have California's strict emissions but I do keep my cars legal and the emissions systems are maintained in working order. I wish you the best of luck in finding the parts you need at a reasonable price!

Just curious, how did the diagnosis that both cats are bad and they are causing the car to cut out come about?

Canna, here are the correct CARB-compliant part numbers for your vehicle:
3321006 - https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=3321006
332006 - https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=332006

You can find the CARB E.O. number for both listed on their product page. Because these are not direct-fit units, they will require welding to install and can be used on either left or right side of the exhaust. If you have any questions we can answer regarding either one, please let us know!
