Shift console plate painting problem (RESOLVED)
I am having my shift console plate stripped and repainted. The rubber coating was flaking off. A very reputable body shop, that I've used for over a decade for custom work on my vehicles is doing the job. They stripped the old coating off, used and etching primer and painted the plate. It lays flat for a few hours then starts to lift. The plate looks textured when this happens. They have tried this 3 times using various techniques for painting plastic parts. They think that the mold release, from the factory, may have impregnated into the plastic, causing this problem. Has anyone heard of this or had success painting this part? Any help is appreciated as at this point the body shop is out of ideas. Thanks!

There are lots of threads here on the forum about refinishing them. You will need to search them out.
For what it is worth, I resprayed mine with "spray black tape" from Harbor Freight. After it dried, I wiped it with Armor All. The texture and color ended up matching the dash.
(I also have a new one to install eventually).
